Chandler's Little Anita's Closes While Phoenix Welcomes Théa Mediterranean at The Global AmbassadorSource: Google Street View

The culinary landscape is always shifting in Arizona, and this trend is exemplified in two recent restaurant stories. Little Anita's, a New Mexican cuisine chain, has shuttered its Chandler location less than two years after opening, whilst Phoenix is gearing up for the launch of théa Mediterranean, the last of the dining venues in the new luxury hotel, The Global Ambassador.

Despite the initial excitement surrounding its opening in August 2022, Little Anita's could not withstand the test of time or taste in Arizona. Phoenix New Times reported that the once-anticipated spot failed to translate its New Mexican charm across state lines. The First Taste review published back in October highlighted the disappointing elements, such as "darkened and slimy guacamole" and "washed out and bland" chiles. Little Anita's has decreased its presence from nine to six locations in New Mexico and retains only one outpost in Colorado following this closure.

In stark contrast to Little Anita's decline, Théa Mediterranean is poised to be a high-flying addition to the Phoenix dining scene. The restaurant boasts a sprawling rooftop space with an expansive view of Camelback Mountain, eagerly positioning itself as the state's largest rooftop dining experience. Designed as a sharing-based menu, théa promises a selection of mezze, seafood, and other Mediterranean staples, with one highlight being the Spaghetti alla Nerano, sparked from Sam Fox's visit to the Amalfi Coast.

According to a press release by Phoenix New Times, théa's drink offerings will include an ambitious rosé collection and a craft cocktail program. The restaurant, which is part of The Global Ambassador's dining ensemble including four other global-themed eateries, looks to make more than just the scenic Camelback Mountain its backdrop, with DJ sets promised to energize the atmosphere. Diners can start booking tables ahead of its official service launch next Wednesday.
