Businesses in Chicago Lawn were put on high alert after a string of armed robberies hit the area, according to a bulletin released by the Chicago Police Department. The report detailed how a male perpetrator targeted cashiers, brandishing a handgun to swiftly demand and obtain money from the registers on the evening of January 3rd.
The first incident played out at approximately 7:00 P.M. on the 5100 block of South Pulaski Road, with the second following close to quickly ensue at 7:45 P.M. on the 3400 block of West 59th Street. The suspect, an African-American male in his 20s or 30s, was uniformly described as wearing a mask, gloves, and a black puffy coat to obscure his identity.
Local businesses and residents are being encouraged by authorities to exercise heightened vigilance and report any questionable behavior they witness. "Always be aware of your surroundings," the police warned, also advising victims to maintain composure in the face of danger and to prioritize detailed recall of any distinctive features the assailant may possess.
Community safety hinges on the swift reporting of crimes in progress. "Never pursue a fleeing assailant," highlighted the CPD statement, urging individuals instead to carefully gather and relay information to law enforcement. Businesses with video surveillance systems are specifically requested to securely retain footage of any relevant incidents for the purpose of assisting in the ongoing investigation.
