
A man was charged with armed robbery after allegedly holding up a Chicago business at gunpoint, authorities said. Deontay Crump, 29, of the 4000 block of N. Milwaukee Ave., now faces a felony count of armed robbery with a firearm, according to a press release from the Chicago Police Department.
Crump was arrested by Chicago police officers on December 30, 2023, after they quickly managed to track him down soon having robbed a retail store in the 1500 block of N. Cicero Ave. in the city's 25th District. The incident occurred minutes prior to his apprehension at approximately 7:56 p.m. on the 1400 block of N. Cicero Ave, the CPD outlined.
The detention hearing for the accused is scheduled to take place on January 1, 2024, at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California. As of this time, no further details have been disclosed regarding the circumstances of the robbery or the specifics of the property taken.
Police response to the robbery was swift, with officers rapidly arriving at the scene to investigate the crime. "Responding officers quickly located the offender, who was placed into custody and subsequently charged accordingly," the official statement released by CPD detailed the events following the crime.
