CHICAGO – A man has been slapped with murder charges in connection to the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old male in August last year, Chicago Police announced. Demell Govan, 33, of the 6900 block of S. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., is facing a count of first-degree murder and another for being an armed habitual criminal.
After months of investigation, authorities took Govan into custody on January 22, in the 400 block of W. 103rd St., pinning him as the gunman behind the lethal violence that took place on the 3500 block of S. Rhodes Ave. Govan's arrest comes ahead of his detention hearing, set for January 23 at the Leighton Criminal Court Building at 2600 S. California.
The Chicago Police Department's official release states that Govan was identified through an investigation as the individual responsible for the shooting of the yet unnamed victim, adding yet another chapter to the city's grim narrative of gun violence.
As of now, police have not disclosed any further details about the incident or a possible motive behind the shooting. The case remains under tight wraps, as the court date may reveal more about the circumstances leading up to the murder, and Govan's, alleged role in it.
