The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert for residents in the 8th District Chicago Lawn area, warning of a recent uptick in robberies. Perpetrators are reportedly using Facebook to lure victims by listing items for sale, before confronting them armed with handguns and demanding their property.
The string of incidents all took place in December with the assailants targeting individuals across multiple locations, particularly on the 6100 Block of South Campbell Avenue, and the 6200 Block of South Maplewood Avenue. According to the Chicago Police Department's notice, there were four reported robberies, with the first happening on December 2 at approximately 1:00 p.m., the most recent on December 31 at around 5:00 p.m.
The suspects have been described as two male African Americans, aged between 20 to 35, standing from 5 feet to 6 feet tall, with medium to dark complexion and dreadlocked hair. They have been seen wearing masks or multi-colored masks and dark clothing during the robberies. No further details (NFD) have been provided regarding their identities.
The CPD has advised the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately. If faced with an assailant, they urge citizens to stay calm and try to memorize any distinguishing features that could help in identification. "Never pursue a fleeing assailant; provide the information to the police," the community alert stated.
