
Residents of Belmont Cragin were put on high alert after an intruder broke into a local apartment and attempted a sexual assault early Friday, according to WGN-TV. Police say the assailant entered a basement unit in the 2600 block of North Lavergne Avenue, where a woman was asleep, and assaulted her before she managed to fend him off.
The unidentified man sought by the Chicago police is reportedly Black, in his twenties or thirties, standing between 5-foot-8 and 6 feet tall and weighing 150 to 220 pounds. His last known direction after the escape was southbound on North Lavergne Avenue, wearing all-black attire, including a hooded sweatshirt and black shoes, as cited by The Chicago Tribune.
Police have issued safety precautions to locals, advising them to remain vigilant, secure doors and windows at all times, and avoid pursuing suspects on their own. Instead, they suggest memorizing any unique features of the assailant and reaching out to authorities with details promptly if an incident occurs.
