Chicago Police detectives are hot on the heels of an individual whose boldness escalated violence on public transit. According to a community alert issued by the Mass Transit Division, the suspect, an African American male believed to be between 18-22 years of age, is wanted for an armed robbery that occurred on the CTA Blue Line near South Kedzie Avenue. On the evening of December 30th, amid commuters making their way through their city's veins, he wielded a machete to menace two passengers into surrendering their belongings before slipping into Chicago's chilly winter night.
The robbery, happening approximately at 7:42 p.m., underscores a broader concern for safety that extends beyond a single act of theft and menaces the communal sanctuary of Chicago's mass transit system.
Regardless of the machete incident that has heightened concerns over public safety, the police implore regular transit riders not to be deterred in their daily commutes. They assure that the offender's capture is a priority to deter future crimes and restore peace of mind for the city's residents.
