A DUI Saturation Patrol is set to roll out in the 2nd (Wentworth) District from Saturday evening through the wee hours of Sunday morning. From 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., officers will be on the lookout for signs of impaired driving, aiming to deter potential DUI offenses before they turn into tragedies, according to the Chicago Police Department.

While the focus will be on spotting and stopping drunk drivers, the police will also be keenly observing other violations such as speeding, insurance lapses, and seat belt offenses. Positioned with speed detection devices, roving patrols will target those violating traffic norms, striving to maintain order on the motorways, and safety for all. Unfortunately, vehicles equipped for catching speedsters will fall under the purview of these efforts, determined to catch those disregarding the speed limits.

During a similar patrol last month in the 6th (Gresham) District, officers doled out 20 citations in total for a mix of infractions, including five for speed violations and three for seat belt violations. However, that same patrol didn't make any arrests for DUI.

Boosting the force's capability to handle DUI incidents, the Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit may also be in action, expediting the process of charging and possibly issuing Individual Recognizance Bonds on the spot. Last time, no drivers under the influence were apprehended, though a handful were cited for infractions, from driving without insurance to operating on a suspended or revoked license.
