A ride-share driver in Chicago's Austin neighborhood found himself critically wounded after an attempted carjacking late Wednesday night, authorities said. According to the Chicago Tribune, around 10:10 p.m., the 51-year-old male driver was ending a trip on the 900 block of North LeClaire Avenue when three attackers confronted him on foot.
The suspects, described merely as three males, made off with the driver's phone after he was accosted—demanding he leave his car. The driver, dropping off a ride-share customer when he was shot in the chest after refusing to comply with the carjackers. He was immediately taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Details on the incident remain slim, with no suspects in custody at the time. "When the driver refused, the suspects shot him in the chest," CBS Chicago reported. The investigation into the attempted carjacking is ongoing as detectives work the case.
