Italian cuisine connoisseurs in Chicago have a new must-visit list to indulge their pasta passions. The food guide and review website The Infatuation released their latest rundown of the top Italian eateries in the Windy City, and Monteverde in the West Loop has snagged the number one spot. According to the list, which has been recently updated and published online, these select 14 restaurants offer the "very best Italian food in the city."
Attributed to the editors of The Infatuation, the unique charm of these dining spots is such that "the restaurants that right after you leave, you’ll immediately wonder when you can go back again." Detailing the standouts, the ragu alla Napoletana served at Monteverde is touted as one of the "most delicious plates of food" the list's authors have ever eaten. The guide suggests a no-holds-barred approach to dining at this prime location: "Come here on a date, with a group, or by yourself, and order every single pasta on the menu."
The eclectic charms of Ciccio Mio, which occupies the second position in the ranking, are highlighted by its unique ambiance, resembling "a room in the mansion from Clue," and its commitment to honoring pasta. Segnatore in Humboldt Park strikes the third spot with a blend of creativity and comfort, as NBC Chicago reports. The Infatuation praises its European cafe vibe, innovative meatballs filled with melted scamorza and deconstructed lasagna that could, "win in a steel cage death match against any meat version."
Not to be overlooked, Fioretta in Fulton Market channels mid-century glamour, while the low-key yet charming A Tavola in Ukrainian Village rounds out the top five with its homey backdrop and housemade gnocchi. The list also nods to the West Loop's new Italian spot, known for dishes like cacio e pepe ricotta dumplings, and Riccardo Trattoria in Lincoln Park—ideal for special occasions without the stuffiness of a formal restaurant.
