A South Side convenience store worker was shot dead during a robbery attempt in Greater Grand Crossing, local authorities confirmed. The Chicago police reported that Shadi Mohammads Uleimen Almomani, 43, fell victim to a fatal shooting in the alley located in the 300 block of East 79th Street, as he encountered an assailant who attempted to rob him Tuesday night.
The grim incident unfolded approximately at 10:15 p.m. when the store employee was outside the convenience store where he worked. He was approached by an unidentified individual demanding valuables, which escalated to gunfire, as stated in a report by the Chicago Sun-Times. Almomani suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died at the scene by 10:30 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed.
No arrests have been made as detectives from Area Two continue their investigation into the late-night violence.
