Chicago sees no respite from its surge in vehicular crimes as another teen joins the growing list of young offenders charged with carjacking. According to the Chicago Police Department, a 17-year-old male has been apprehended and charged with one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking using a firearm.
Caught in the act by the vigilant members of law enforcement, the young offender was arrested on January 11, including a weapon, in the 5100 block of S. Wentworth Ave. He was pinpointed as part of the trio that, on December 30, 2023, accosted a 16-year-old boy, taking his vehicle at gunpoint in broad daylight around 11:20 a.m. The incident, casting a shadow over the festive season, occurred in the 4400 block of S. Lawler Ave.
Plucked from the streets where the crime took place, the juvenile was placed into custody without further incident. The Chicago Police Department has remained tight-lipped, releasing no additional details surrounding the case or the identities of the other accused juveniles.
