A 16-year-old male has been slapped with serious charges after an aggravated vehicular hijacking incident that took place in August 2022.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the juvenile was apprehended by the force's Vehicular Hijacking Task Force on January 17th, 2024, and is facing one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, and another for the attempted hijacking using a firearm. The teen was placed in custody and is to appear before the court facing these charges.

The arrest occurred on the 1100 block of S. Hamilton Ave., and it stems from an event that happened over a year ago. The police have identified the youth as the suspect who, on the morning of August 22, 2022, at approximately 6:42 a.m., allegedly held a 51-year-old man at gunpoint and took his vehicle on the 7300 block of S. Campbell Ave.

Mere minutes after the first crime, the same offender is accused of having tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to commandeer another vehicle from a 50-year-old woman in the 2500 block of W. Lithuanian Plaza Ct. These two back-to-back incidents initially spurred the investigation that has only now, nearly 18 months later, resulted in arrest and formal charges.

The Chicago Police Department has not released any additional information regarding the juvenile or the incidents at this time.
