An 18-year-old subject has been slapped with charges including first-degree murder, armed robbery, and aggravated vehicular hijacking. The accused, identified as Alonzo Rodriguez-Medina of the 5700 block of W. 106th St. in Chicago Ridge, Illinois, is facing a litany of felony counts for a crime spree that ended in a hail of police activity earlier this week.
Rodriguez-Medina, who law enforcement officials say is responsible for the death of a 32-year-old man last December, was apprehended on January 24, in the 6400 block of S. Paulina. Found fatally shot in the 6100 block of S. Central Park Ave., the victim's murder case remained unsolved until Rodriguez-Medina's recent arrest. According to information from the department's official release, the offender was placed into custody and has been charged accordingly.
In addition to the murder charge, Rodriguez-Medina is charged with an armed robbery and an aggravated vehicular hijacking involving a 39-year-old male victim. The incidents happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. on January 24, within the perimeter of the 4600 block of S. Trumbull Ave. The assailant, linked to the crimes by the Chicago Police, is now awaiting his fate at a detention hearing taking place at 2600 S. California.
No additional details regarding the evidence or circumstances leading to the teenager's arrest have been released as yet by authorities. The charges for Rodriguez-Medina are severe, particularly for someone his age, reflecting the seriousness with which the local justice system is treating these violent offenses. A court date has been set for today to determine whether Rodriguez-Medina will be held in detention as his legal proceedings commence.
