A 19-year-old man from Cicero has been slammed with a felony robbery charge after allegedly sticking up a victim at gunpoint, Chicago police said. Derrick Bearden of the 1900 block of S. 51st Ave was taken into custody on January 23, 2024, after being fingered as one of the crooks involved in the December heist.
According to the Chicago Police Department's statement, the armed shakedown went down back on December 1, 2023, around lunchtime. The victim, a 47-year-old man, was mugged in the 2600 block of N. Kildare Ave, a part of town the cops patrol in their 25th District. Bearden now faces a judge for a detention hearing today after he was nabbed by police near the scene of the crime.
The accuser, whose name has not been disclosed for privacy reasons, had his property forcibly taken. Bearden's collar was a result of diligent detective work by the CPD, who connected the dots and put him at the scene with enough certainty to warrant his arrest and the serious charge of armed robbery with a firearm.
The police assure that Bearden has been removed from circulation and awaits his court appearance at the 2600 S. California location.
