The College Park Police Department is in mourning following the loss of their own Sgt. Shakeya Lee-Shawn Walker, known affectionately as Justice. Passed away on her birthday last week due to medical complications, at the age of 43, as FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
During her eight-year tenure with the department, Walker served with distinction, most recently as a training coordinator in the Office of Public Safety. "We request your continued prayers for the entire law enforcement community, as we collectively mourn our colleague's loss," the department shared in a somber note on Facebook. The veteran sergeant's dedication was not only rooted in her professional pursuits but also in her volunteer work with the Fraternal Order of Police WDC #1, and her service as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
According to WSB-TV, Walker's commitment to service garnered her several departmental awards, cementing her reputation as a mentor to her peers. Her obituary described her as "an outstanding officer: protective, caring, dedicated, grounding, and resourceful." In addition, it stated, "However, her impact on her family, friends, doctors, nurses, cancer team, neighbors, and fellow officers' lives on."
Walker, a Brooklyn native was widely respected for her "no-nonsense approach with love, loyalty, and a giving heart." Friends and colleagues remember her for her steadfast presence, her love of traveling, and the joy she found in family gatherings. Her final farewell is scheduled for Wednesday morning, where she will be laid to rest at South View Cemetery, leaving behind a legacy of service and love that touched many lives.
