Coppell ISD is getting a facelift this summer, with two elementary schools scheduled for major interior renovations. Coming off the heels of voter-approved funding, the district's plans involve a series of updates to modernize facilities and enhance student safety.
The renovations, which were detailed on the district’s website, will jazz up Mockingbird Elementary School and Wilson Elementary School with an array of improvements estimated to cost a cool $7 million. Upgraded fire alarm systems and intercom systems replacements, along with LED lighting and ADA enhancements, are just a few of the upgrades in the pipeline, set for completion by August 1, according to The Dallas Express.
On the administrative end, filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation revealed the project specifics. For Mockingbird Elementary School alone, the update, bearing the project number TABS2024009712, involves a 74,446 square-foot refresh featuring new paint, flooring, and lighting. This comes with a $3,500,000 price tag as listed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
In the larger picture, Proposition A makes up nearly $270 million of the school district's future, aiming at ushering in playgrounds, classroom tech, and HVAC systems, as outlined by the district. The educational landscape of Coppell ISD dazzles, boasting impressive academic achievements when compared to its peers. An impressive 78% of its students hit the grade-level mark on the STAAR exam, marking a notable success rate in North Texas. Meanwhile, Coppell ISD's graduation rates are soaring with 99.6% of students graduating on time in the 2021-2022 school year – outpacing the average significantly.
The district, serving over 13,000 students from Coppell and surrounding areas, is focusing on that future despite an expected dip in enrollment. Coppell ISD continues to leverage funds, like the $39.4 million from Proposition B dedicated to technology stride, ensuring its students have access to cutting-edge resources for education in a landscape that's forever changed by the integration of digital tools.
