A Cottage Grove woman has been slapped with federal charges after a grand jury indicted her for allegedly spreading violent threats across social media. Elizabeth Ballesteros West, age 56, faces the legal music after threats against co-workers and various minority groups were dug up by the feds, as confirmed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon.

The investigation began in September last year when an anonymous tipster waved down the FBI, claiming West was spewing threats against her co-workers on Facebook, the Department of Justice reported. Court documents later uncovered West's further exploits on a platform known as X, posting sharply divisive and violent content aimed at Black and Jewish communities, with immigrants also caught in her crosshairs.

In January, West admitted to her online outburst and revealed she had a collection of weapons, including shotguns and AR-15 rifles. The FBI investigated and found a substantial arsenal at her home, including 12 handguns, 16 rifles, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. They also discovered a journal with hateful and violent writings.

The bust didn't end with a bang but a silent yank as West was plucked from her workplace in Eugene without a hint of drama on January 12, according to a report from KOIN. Held pending further court proceedings, West is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam E. Delph, with the Cottage Grove Police Department, Eugene Police Department, and Lane County Sheriff’s Office all throwing in their chips to help with the FBI-led investigation.

The courts hold the power now, and even though West is accused, it's important to remember she is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. This is a fundamental right under the strong influence of American justice.
