A Coweta County community is preparing to show its deep respect and heartache for a local hero, Deputy Sheriff Eric A. Minix, who lost his life in a violent crash after being struck by an Alabama police officer amid a high-speed pursuit, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. The fatal incident occurred during an interstate chase which began in Georgia but reached a deadly conclusion in Chambers County, Alabama on January 4.
In honor of the fallen deputy, who died when a stolen car chase escalated beyond state lines and into tragedy, his life and service will be commemorated with a public procession. The Coweta County Sheriff's Office has invited the community to line up along the route from McKoon Funeral Home to Crossroads Church-Sharpsburg Campus at around 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, and from Coweta County Fairgrounds to Crossroads Church at 9 a.m. the following day after the incident occurred which the chase that spiraled into a fatal encounter on Interstate 85, claimed the deputy's life.
Deputy Minix was known for his dedication to duty as well as his integral role as a K9 handler, but beyond the badge, he is remembered as a friend to many in the community, as detailed by an 11Alive report stating, "We have lost a good deputy. We have lost a good man. We have lost a good friend." He is survived by his wife and three daughters, leaving a void in both his family and the community he served so faithfully.
