A fatal shooting has rocked Southwest Houston as a customer was killed, and an employee was injured at a local tire shop. The violent incident unfolded at the 24-Hour Tires located at 1415 South Loop West, near Interstate 610. According to Fox San Antonio, the shooting occurred just before 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, catching victims and bystanders in a sudden burst of gunfire.
Houston Police said a customer was at a place to fix a flat tire. The general manager, Robert Moore, said the customer seemed in a hurry. While an employee worked on the vehicle, the attacker suddenly appeared and shot the employee in the arm and fatally shot the customer multiple times, as reported by ABC13.
The surveillance footage caught the harrowing scene, with the sound of over a dozen shots piercing the night air. The video shows the perpetrator standing over the fallen customer, continuing to fire even as the victim lay on the ground. "I guess they felt this was the ideal place to commit that heinous crime," Moore conveyed to Fox San Antonio.
The attack was targeted and do not consider it a threat to the general public. Moore speculated that the customer was tracked to the location and deliberately attacked, although the investigators have not disclosed a motive. The perpetrator is described as a man clad in blue sweatpants and a black jacket, details shared by the police in their ongoing search for the gunman. In recent years, Moore's two locales, including 24-Hour Tire, have been scenes of related violent crimes such as shootings and armed robberies.
The operation of tire services around the clock, which Moore's businesses have offered, is now under scrutiny. "It makes it very difficult for you to be here for everybody when these types of things take place," Moore elucidated in statements to both Fox San Antonio and ABC13. The tragic incident has pushed him to rethink keeping the business open throughout the night, amidst concerns of safety and the broader implications of providing a possibly vulnerable space for criminal activity.
