The Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS), which is the body responsible for making sure county jails across Texas are up to snuff, gave Dallas County's facility the thumbs up after an unannounced visit.
Every nook and cranny of the Dallas County Jail was scrutinized, from the sanitation practices, the health services on offer, to the food service, and even inmate clothing and personal hygiene. Other areas that the TCJS checked included life safety rules, intake and release procedures, education, and rehabilitation programs, recreation and exercise facilities, supervision of inmates, and the jail's records and procedures. It's not a job for the faint of heart, yet seemingly, the Dallas County Jail met the challenge head-on.
In a statement obtained by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Marian Brown didn't hide her excitement about the positive outcome, announcing, "This inspection is the ‘why’ behind the hard work produced by Dallas County Sheriff’s employees. I am elated that we have passed the inspection. Providing exceptional service to the community is our priority. We will continue to do the work with integrity, professionalism, and accountability." The results represent more than just a routine checkup for those running the county jail — it's a badge of honor.
Given the cut-and-dried nature of state inspections, the Dallas County Jail's clear bill of health serves as an affirmation of the hard work put in by the Sheriff's Office Deputies and Detention Service Officers. Their dedication did not go unnoticed, with a hearty thank you expressed publicly for all their efforts. Despite the high tension that often surrounds incarceration and law enforcement, it seems at least for now, that the Dallas County Jail has its house in order.
