A devastating scene unfolded in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas, where a woman lost her life after her car was crushed by an out-of-control SUV early Wednesday morning. Police have since confirmed an arrest in the fatal hit-and-run.
According to FOX 4 News, the suspect was maneuvering an SUV when he hit a curb and a traffic light pole, causing the vehicle to vault across the intersection at Jim Miller and Bruton Roads. The SUV spun, overturned, and ultimately landed on a sedan, whose driver was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. Authorities have yet to release the name of the victim as they continue to notify the next of kin.
The male driver of the SUV did not remain at the scene, reportedly running off and fleeing in another person's vehicle. Hours of relentless searching by officers led to his eventual arrest. As reported by WFAA, his name has not been disclosed by the Dallas Police Department, who have indicated that charges are pending.
Details surrounding the chaotic and tragic collision continue to emerge, however, law enforcement has kept tight-lipped about certain facets of the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, remnants of the crash were still visible hours later, with car debris and first responder gloves strewn across the crash site, and a sign visibly bent to the ground. The community watches, as tire tracks in the mud mark where an innocent life was claimed.
