The Dallas Stars' knack for edge-of-your-seat entertainment came to the fore again as they duked it out with the Detroit Red Wings, emerging victorious with a tight 5-4 score on Tuesday night. Stars coach Peter DeBoer summed up the electric atmosphere, noting, "The people got their money's worth tonight, because it was like three games in one," CBS News reported. Every period brought its drama with Dallas eventually overpowering Detroit who had clinched control early in the game.
Roope Hintz, the Stars' forward, was in scintillating form, scoring two goals and propelling his team to their seventh consecutive win over the Red Wings. Detroit had led 2-1 after the first period, but a second-period surge by Dallas, where they tallied four goals without response, turned the game on its head. The Red Wings attempted a comeback in the third, coming up short despite adding two goals to their tally. "I obviously loved our second period," DeBoer quipped, as per AP News.
Jamie Benn, Mason Marchment, and Esa Lindell joined Hintz on the scoresheet for Dallas, while the Red Wings saw goals from David Perron, Alex DeBrincat, Dylan Larkin, and J.T. Compher. In the crease, Jake Oettinger for the Stars tallied 30 saves, with Detroit's duo Alex Lyon and James Reimer combining forces to stop 33 shots. Despite their power-play prowess, netting three out of three, Detroit couldn't capitalize on the momentum, something DeBrincat lamented, "It's tough to score three power-play goals and not win a game," he noted in a post-game reflection, as per CBS News.
DeBoer credited his team's rallying talk and a superior second period for tipping the scales in their favor, “I didn’t think we had a good start, so we talked in the room that we needed to step it up a little bit, I think we played well in the second period and we got the win," Hintz relayed to the media. Meanwhile, Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde shouldered some of the blame, his team's costly errors leading to their unraveling, “But it was on us. Some missed tracks, a couple of turnovers," Lalonde admitted, signaling that despite their efforts, the Red Wings fell prey to a Dallas team that simply outmatched them when it counted, according to CBS News.
Looking ahead, the Stars end their four-game road trip and return home to face Anaheim on Thursday, providing a chance to build on their momentum. The Red Wings remain at home, hosting Philadelphia as they look to shake off the loss and forge a path back to winning ways.
