A Dartmouth man is behind bars on firearm charges after New Bedford cops nabbed him post a disturbance call on Cove St. where he allegedly flashed a gun during a spat over loud music. According to the New Bedford Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after midnight on January 28 to address the ruckus. When the resident approached the next-door partygoers to tone down the tunes, Miguel Rosario, 54, reportedly grew confrontational and pointed a firearm at the complaint lodger's face.
The scene turned frantic as the victim dialed the police, with the accused speeding off. Detectives swiftly issued an alert with a detailed suspect and vehicle description. Officer Jenna Touchette, stationed on Route 18 at the time, spied the suspect's ride—a mismatch to the broadcasted lookout, carelessly driving a short hop north of Elm St. Backed by other patrol officers and Massachusetts State Police troopers, Officer Touchette orchestrated the traffic stop, ensuring safe apprehension of Rosario.
During the arrest, law enforcement discovered a .45 caliber Taurus semi-automatic pistol, loaded with eight rounds, in a satchel bag slung over Rosario's shoulder, the report detailed. The serial number check later confirmed the pistol as stolen property from Georgia. Rosario was taken into custody without a license to carry and now faces multiple charges including assault with a firearm, unlicensed possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of stolen property, revealed by the police.
The New Bedford PD disclosed that Mr. Rosario of 720 Crossroads, North Dartmouth, did not have the right permits for the stolen weapon, and the responding officer Ofc. Juniel Jordan placed him under arrest. New Bedford City Police states on their facebook page, "ROSARIO was taken into custody and charged with a variety of serious offenses."
Information regarding ongoing investigations can be confidentially shared with the New Bedford Police Department through their website or the hotline, as community cooperation proves vital in such cases. If anyone has something fruitful to share that can reinforce the case against Rosario or other illegal firearm-related activities.
