A teacher at Ronald Reagan Senior High School in Doral has been slapped with pornography charges after an indecent Snapchat video of himself went viral among students. Wesly Alvarez, a 45-year-old Fine Arts teacher, was cuffed by police at the school and later fired following the allegations.
Alvarez, caught in the act of exposing his genitals in front of the school bathroom mirror, was seen by students in the video sporting the same attire he wore to work that day, WSVN reported. The educator was summoned to the school office by officers, where he sadly admitted to the accusations and was subsequently hauled off to Turner Gilford Knight Center.
In a stern statement released by the district, Miami-Dade Schools made it clear they intended to fully distance themselves from Alvarez, “Conduct such as the one he is accused of will not be tolerated. As such, his employment with the District is being terminated and we will ensure he is precluded from seeking future employment with M-DCPS,” as per WSVN. The arrest report emerged after students filed complaints with the school resource officer and principal.
Following his court appearance, where he was donned in a green vest, Alvarez's bail was set at $7,500 with specific stipulations. "Can you afford an attorney?" Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer asked during the hearing, to which Alvarez replied, "I can't answer." Additionally, he was instructed to not have any unsupervised contact with minors, save for his children, according to CBS News Miami.
Outraged parents and concerned relatives expressed their shock and disappointment to CBS News Miami. Sisi Torre, a parent, asserted, "The fact that teachers are not supposed to do these things. They are supposed to help students grow and learn and get stronger." Meanwhile, former student Daniel Gonzalez recounted Alvarez as his art teacher, stating, "This is horrible for students and the reputation of the school. Why would a teacher go and expose himself like that, especially in public? This is not right."
