A grisly scene unfolded in the suburban quiet of Downers Grove, where a couple was found shot to death in their home Tuesday night, local authorities confirmed. Downers Grove Police launched a death investigation after officers arrived at the 6400 block of Fairview Avenue around 10 p.m. to reports of a shooting, as documented in a press release from the Village of Downers Grove Police Department. Upon entry into the residence, officers found two bodies, both suffering from gunshot wounds, in what appeared to be a domestic tragedy.
Witnesses at the scene described a chaotic event, recounting to police that an armed man was inside the home and that a gunshot had been heard. In an early Wednesday police presence characterized by yellow tape and flashing lights, these testimonies contributed to the unfolding inquiry, NBC Chicago reported.
The investigation has revealed a violent altercation preceding the gunshot—a dispute between the husband and wife living at the address. According to police, the husband is suspected to have fatally shot his wife before succumbing to a gunshot wound himself. The victims have been identified by officers as Dongwei Su and Yakun Sui, both 42 years of age, a detail confirmed by CBS News.
Authorities are continuing to probe the case, assuring the public that there is no ongoing threat. Police indicated the incident appeared to be confined domestic in nature, as stated in the release. There were no additional suspects sought by Downers Grove Police, who are meticulously piecing together the events that led to the tragedy within the walls of a home that once echoed with life.
