The heart of Texas is pulsating with new culinary and retail life as Lobos Hospitality unveils its trifecta of eateries in downtown Austin, while the retail and entertainment scene also blossoms with a slew of eagerly-awaited openings throughout 2024.
New to the bustling South Austin is the Toasty Badger, a diner with a twist of '70s nostalgia and East Coast flavor, and Manny’s, an art deco-inspired café ready to serve up a collection of sandwiches and healthy bowls. Not to be overshadowed, the speakeasy-style Powder Room will whisk patrons away to a cocktail haven nestled within Manny's quarters. Droves of customers are anticipated to swarm these venues following their debut later this month, as reported by Eater Austin.
In the same vibrant stride, the retail landscape of Austin is hitting nearly full occupancy, with Weitzman noting an impressive 97% rate. Among the major introductions to the scene is a hefty 145,000-square-foot H-E-B grocery store, inclusive of dining and live music offerings. Meanwhile, local gamers and nightlife enthusiasts can anticipate the arrival of Pins Mechanical Co. and 16-Bit Bar+Arcade as they take residency in the transformed St Elmo Public Market space, according to details from The Austin American Statesman.
Details from Eater Austin's interview with Jason Ellefson, co-owner of Lobos, indicate a heartfelt commitment to Austin's culture with a hefty wager. “We gave up all of these high-level careers and bet really big on Austin,” Ellefson explained. The team's homegrown recipes and sincere dedication to crafting a unique brand for the city are set to imprint on Austin's culinary map.
Further north, the Hutto Co-Op District is expanding its culinary reach with the latest addition, Jack Allen's Kitchen, slated to launch in the summer of 2024. This opening, nestled within a multifaceted development that is shaped by booming retail and governmental offices, will further enhance the district as a sought-after destination for locals and visitors alike.
The incessant growth of Austin's heartline extends to the hotel industry as well, marked by the unconventional Frame Hotel - SoCo's approach to accommodation. This minimalist boutique hotel eschews traditional amenities in favor of experiential freedom, targeting travelers seeking novelty over convention.
