
A tragic incident unfolded in the Gold Coast area when a driver was killed after being ejected from their SUV on DuSable Lake Shore Drive in the early hours of Thursday. The accident, which involved a black SUV, happened around 3 a.m., in the 1300 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Emergency services rushed to the scene to find the 31-year-old male driver critically injured after the crash and quickly transported him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Despite the efforts, he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m., confirmed by the Cook County medical examiner’s office. A male passenger also suffered minor injuries in the accident but was reported to be in good condition, according to ABC7 Chicago.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by police detectives. While there have been no official statements on the conditions of the road at the time of the accident, it was noted that it had been snowing overnight which may have contributed to the hazardous driving conditions.
Traffic was significantly disrupted following the accident with southbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive temporarily diverted off at North Avenue, however by 7:30 a.m., all lanes were reported to have reopened. City salt trucks were seen attending to the expressways and tollways in the wake of the snowfall, underscoring the efforts to keep the roads safe for travelers in the harsh winter conditions, as mentioned by ABC7 Chicago.
