Duncanville is rolling out the red carpet for one of its own as Police Chief Mark LiVigni gears up to bid farewell to a three-decade career in law enforcement. The city has slated a public send-off for the retiring chief, whose last day on the job is January 31. Residents can join the celebration on January 19 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the Duncanville City Hall, with light refreshments on hand for attendees, according to the City of Duncanville.

During his 30 years of service, beginning in 1993, LiVigni climbed the ranks, ultimately leading the Duncanville Police Department. After serving in the United States Air Force, LiVigni's policing career spanned every sworn position up to his current role as chief. "I had the honor of appointing Mark to Assistant Chief of Police in 2017. His work ethic was a shining example of what it means to be a dedicated law enforcement professional," Assistant City Manager Robert D. Brown, Jr., who previously held the Chief of Police title, recounted in a statement. Brown also extended his gratitude to LiVigni for his "unwavering commitment to excellence", as per the City of Duncanville.

The praise for LiVigni's dedication didn't stop there. City Manager Douglas Finch lauded the outgoing chief for his steadfast service to Duncanville. "Chief LiVigni's dedication to the residents of the City of Duncanville and his long-time service to the community has left us all the better for his efforts," Finch said. He highlighted LiVigni's focus on public safety and the well-being of Duncanville's citizens as a key aspect of his legacy. As the city bids him adieu, Finch expressed "heartfelt appreciation" on behalf of Duncanville and wished the chief a merited retirement, per the City of Duncanville.

Chief LiVigni's retirement party will be a come-and-go event, allowing community members to stop by at their convenience. It will take place in the Briefing Room at 203 E. Wheatland Rd., a venue that has undoubtedly seen LiVigni's influence over the years. The event is open to the public, offering a chance for citizens to personally thank LiVigni for his years of service and to celebrate his career achievements one last time.
