An East Boston man has been charged with a savage New Year's attack on a woman, in the presence of her children, in their apartment, authorities said. Erick Arevalo was arraigned with armed assault with attempt to murder and several other charges related to the incident that left the victim with serious injuries, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office announced.
Police responded to the domestic violence call in the early hours of January 1, where they found a woman with multiple cuts to her head, neck, and hand following an altercation with Arevalo, 23. After committing the attack, Arevalo reportedly fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, crashing into a stone wall and three other parked cars, before assaulting a second individual who confronted him, according to officials.
District Attorney Kevin Hayden highlighted “This was a brutal assault, made even worse by the fact that it occurred while the victim’s children were present in the apartment. The quick work by investigators with help from those with knowledge of what happened helped make for a quick arrest,” in a statement obtained by the DA's Office. Arevalo was eventually arrested in Brighton, some time after the incident.
Judge Shelley Joseph set Arevalo's bail at $5,000, and he is due back in court on February 12 for a probable cause hearing.
