It seems the budding Picassos and van Goghs among us have more reason to pick up their brushes and explore their creative side. The Eden Prairie Art Center is rolling out a slew of new programs aimed at all ages.
Kicking things off for the little ones is a "Story and Art Time" featuring a collage of magazine cutouts, available for kids aged 2-6 alongside an adult. Those seeking to keep their Monday mornings rich with color and imagination can sign up for sessions running through March 25 from 10-11 a.m., as described in a bulletin from the center. Adults aren't left out, with an "Introduction to Oil Painting" course that starts on January 30 and continues every Tuesday, until March 12 from 6:30-9 p.m., where abstract art will be the focus of the day, err, evening.
Meanwhile, seniors can show some love by creating hand-printed Valentine's Day cards in a workshop scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. For those with a penchant for the more illuminating arts, "Stained Glass — Sunburst Corner Suncatcher" sessions are also beginning that same evening from 6-9 p.m., running through to Feb. 22 as per the City of Eden Prairie announcement.
Teen and adult patrons get to poke their artistic curiosity with "Needle Felting Landscape" – a chance to create a needle-felted outdoor landscape, suitable for ages 15 and up on Thursday, Feb. 1, between 7-9 p.m. Not to be outshone, kids aged 10-14 are catered for with "Still Life" painting sessions every Sunday from Feb. 4-25, beckoning their inner Rembrandts from 2-4 p.m., a perfect way to round out the weekend.
Families looking for a shared activity need to look no further than "Fused Glass–Winter Villages," an opportunity to bond over creating fused glass evergreen trees. The one-time event slated for Saturday, Feb. 10, from 4-6 p.m., opens its doors to participants aged 9 and older when accompanied by a responsible adult.
All the nitty-gritty details for these artsy engagements, along with sign-up information, are neatly laid out for the public's perusal at the Art Center's website. Those with an itch for creativity can find more at edenprairie.org/Recreation.
