Continuing a tradition for its fourth consecutive year, officers spread holiday cheer, armed with $50 bills instead of tickets, to unsuspecting Eden Prairie citizens. These gifts were provided by the Eden Prairie Crime Prevention Fund, supported by an anonymous donor eager to give back to the community.
Throughout December, the 74 department members disbanded the windfall to a diverse group of recipients, each with their own story of need or kindness. Among them, two gas station clerks who intervened in a potentially ruinous fraud were rewarded for their vigilance, according to a statement from the EPPD. An evicted family, a student weighed down by medical bills, and even a fast-food worker known for their unfailing positivity made the list of those benefiting from this unexpected act of generosity.
In a heartwarming twist, even those living on the fringes of society felt the warmth of the community. A gas station employee was recognized for taking in her sister's children after tragedy struck, and a single mother battling cancer received aid that stretched beyond the cold clinical walls of the hospital. The 11-year-old shopping solo for holiday presents and a domestic violence victim with children to feed also found respite in the form of a crisp fifty.
The initiative reached its arms across continents, providing comfort to a resettled Afghan family, whose patriarch once aided coalition forces. Sadly, an improper twist to fate had them fleeing the Taliban, only to find solace through the Eden Prairie community's kindness. "The EPPD is deeply grateful to the Crime Prevention Fund for allowing us to share joy with our residents during the holidays," reads a heartening close to the EPPD's statement.
