A seasoned lawbreaker's run stopped in El Cajon after he swiped a suitcase brimming with goods from a Marshall's store and tried to make a not-so-clean getaway last Tuesday afternoon. The El Cajon Police nabbed 51-year-old Edwin Cruz Diaz, still clutching the stolen merchandise just a stone's throw away from the scene of the crime, according to the official police report.
In what was a less than slick operation, Diaz, whose rap sheet is teeming with past run-ins including theft, narcotics, and weapons charges, thought he could outsmart the local authorities by pilfering from the retailer however, officers were quick on the draw responding rapidly which led to his swift apprehension, as revealed by the El Cajon Police Department. Post-arrest, it came to light that Diaz was wanted on an active warrant for robbery, only adding to his already lengthy list of legal woes.
Grand theft charges have been slapped on Diaz, who's no stranger to the inside of a cell. The police's follow-up investigation flipped over another dark card in Diaz's deck—an outstanding robbery warrant swinging the spotlight back onto his life of crime.
The El Cajon Police Department wasted no time in trumpeting their zero-tolerance policy against retail theft and underscoring their relentless pursuit to put offenders like Diaz behind bars in the release, "The El Cajon Police Department takes retail theft very seriously, it will use every extent of the law to arrest offenders who commit retail theft and, whenever possible, put them in jail." reinforcing their commitment to keeping the streets and businesses of their jurisdiction secure.
