An El Paso man is cooling his heels in a Florida jail cell, facing charges for allegedly obsessing over and stalking international pop sensation Shakira. Daniel John Valtier, 55, found himself under arrest by Miami Beach Police Department on suspicion of stalking, alongside accusations of hiring a vehicle with the intent to defraud, according to court records obtained by Yahoo News.
Details surrounding the arrest that took place on Jan. 8 indicate Valtier was allegedly quite busy making his unwanted presence felt. Reports from Florida news outlets state that he made several posts on social media regarding the Colombian singer, and had various items delivered to her Miami home 'whenever and whenever,' as Fox San Antonio reported. Meanwhile, court documents failed to specify the exact nature of these deliveries.
Valtier's virtual footprints led to an Instagram account where, amidst about eight posts, he claimed a personal and professional relationship with Shakira. One photo, which featured Valtier staring intently into the camera, was captioned with a bold declaration of marriage to the singer and a vision of them owning a trucking and garment manufacturing empire.
Despite multiple warnings from Shakira's team, explicitly stating that they were not 'meant to be together', Valtier’s alleged actions have prompted legal action. His criminal past stretches back decades, with an extensive rap sheet in El Paso that includes drug charges, aggravated assault, and driving while intoxicated, public intoxication, according to El Paso jail records. His last arrest in El Paso was in 2019 for criminal trespass.
The Miami Beach Police Department's silence on this latest incident speaks volumes, as officials have yet to respond to requests for additional information on Valtier's case. As the situation unfolds, further findings from the arrest affidavits are awaited, leaving the public eye to watch and wonder just how far one man's obsession can take him.
