A tragic scene unfolded on a San Marcos street as a 66-year-old woman was killed when a pickup truck hit her, the San Diego Sheriff's Department reported. The accident occurred on the evening of January 18, as the woman traversed the crosswalk near Palomar Sprinter Station at West Mission Road and North Las Posas Road.

According to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, the pedestrian, whose identity hasn't been revealed yet, was walking north when she was struck by a grey Toyota Tacoma driven by a 61-year-old man who was westbound on West Mission Road and, in a moment, what was possibly a routine crossing turned fatal.

The driver involved in the incident immediately stopped and called authorities; a passing motorist also witnessed the event and attempted to administer life-saving measures to the victim. Despite the swift response from San Marcos Fire and Paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner's office was called in to establish the exact cause of death and to formally identify the victim to inform her family of the tragedy.

Officials have indicated that neither drugs, alcohol, nor speed appeared to be factors in the deadly encounter. The investigation is actively underway by the San Marcos Traffic Unit, they are urging anyone with information regarding the collision to contact them at (760) 510-5200.
