The Ellis County Sheriff's Office has added a fresh face to its team. In a brief ceremony, Sheriff Brad Norman inducted recent Navarro College Police Academy graduate James Smilie as the new Deputy Sheriff. Sworn in to serve and protect, Deputy Smilie is now officially part of the law enforcement family in Ellis County, according to the Ellis County Sheriff's Office.
The ceremony, marked by oath and insignia, was as much an initiation as it was a promise—a commitment to the badge and the community Smilie will now watch over. Sheriff Norman expressed his pleasure at welcoming Deputy Smilie aboard. "Please welcome James Smilie to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office," he said, per the Ellis County Sheriff's Office. Norman's words were not just a greeting but also a hint of the trust and responsibility Smilie has inherited by joining the force.
