Texans are being asked once again by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to cut back on electricity as the state faces another day of freezing temperatures. Following a string of record-breaking power demands due to severe cold weather, ERCOT issued an appeal to residents and businesses to conserve energy on Tuesday morning, marking the second consecutive day of such a request.

ERCOT has forecasted that Tuesday's energy demand could surpass the numbers seen on Monday, which set a new January peak demand record. "ERCOT is forecasting higher demand tomorrow morning as Texans return to work and schools reopen." In response to the anticipated spike in usage, Texans are asked to conserve power from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., as reported by San Antonio Express News.

The previous day saw power usage in the state reach 75,559 megawatts during the morning hours, breaking not only a January record but also a winter peak, according to ERCOT data. This high level of consumption followed a record set just the night before when demand hit 70,892 megawatts.

Despite the heightened demand, ERCOT assured that the conservation appeal does not signal an emergency with the overall grid. In a news release reported by The Dallas Morning News, the agency clarified, "Tomorrow’s conservation appeal does not indicate ERCOT is experiencing emergency conditions at this time." If there are outages, they are said to be localized issues rather than a reflection of the grid's reliability.

Texans can expect similar conditions through Wednesday, with ERCOT maintaining its weather watch and the possibility of additional conservation requests.
