In Fairfield, California, a routine traffic stop turned into a substantial narcotics bust when Officer Spencer of the Fairfield PD pulled over a car with a suspended registration. The incident occurred late in the evening on January 14 in the 1700 block of North Texas Street and has since made local headlines after the discovery of drugs and a firearm in the vehicle.
The vehicle's passengers didn't know that the night would take a sharp turn for the worse when Officer Spencer approached, according to the Fairfield Police Department, a pistol was spotted in plain view on the rear floorboard of the car — which led to both occupants being detained, and a subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted, .63 pounds of an illegally possessed narcotic intended for sale was reportedly found.
Mychael Hamilton Payne, 35, of Richmond, and Marshawn Stewart, 33, of Suisun City, were arrested. The bust details, including a photo of the seized firearm, were disclosed on the Fairfield PD's official Facebook page. Both men have since been transported to County Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings.
