Earlier today on San Antonio highway a man was found dead, officials said. A Texas Department of Transportation worker stumbled upon a fatal crash on I-10 West near Huebner just after 3 a.m., where they found the man lying on the side of the road, KENS 5 reported.
San Antonio Police, have said the Highway Emergency Response Operator (HERO) driver, who made the discovery, called in police assistance immediately upon finding the crashed truck and the nearby body. The early investigation into the incident suggests that the man was thrown from the vehicle during the crash, resulting in his death at the scene, according to police.
The freeway was shut down for several hours as a result, creating early morning traffic delays. This closure allowed emergency crews and investigators to piece together the events that led to the truck veering off the road and its driver's ejection and subsequent death.
Details remain scant as officials work to determine the cause of the accident. "It's unclear what lead up to the accident," authorities explained, noting that the man was ejected from the vehicle, FOX San Antonio reports. Both the northbound, and southbound lanes of IH-10 were closed but have since been reopened to traffic. Police continue to investigate the case and have not released the identity of the deceased man pending notification of next of kin.
