In downtown Atlanta on Monday morning, a man was fatally stabbed in what has now become a homicide investigation. The Atlanta Police Department responded to the call just before 10 a.m. in the 500 block of Marietta Street, located south of North Avenue and not far from the renowned Georgia Tech campus, according to information from FOX 5 Atlanta.

The victim found bearing a fatal stab wound, was pronounced dead at the scene by Grady EMS shortly before officers arrived at 9:50 a.m. He has since been identified as 41-year-old Emerson Gooden by the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office, which unfolded next to Coca-Cola headquarters and shook the local community.

Detectives have yet to release details on the circumstances leading to the deadly encounter or information on potential suspects, as the investigation continues into what precipitated this act of violence.

Authorities have made no arrests as of yet, and homicide detectives have taken up the task of piecing together the events that claimed Gooden's life, as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. In a statement, the Atlanta Police Department urges anyone who might possess pertinent information to come forward.
