Fayette County Sheriff Hunts for Suspected Lottery Ticket Thief Using Counterfeit BillsSource: Facebook/Fayette County Sheriff's Office, Texas- Sheriff Keith Korenek

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is in hot pursuit of a man who has pilfered a large sum in lottery tickets from various convenience stores in the area. The suspect approached the clerks with a request for a hefty amount of Texas Lottery tickets, ranging between $450 and $800, according to Express News.

Following the clerk's placement of the lottery tickets on the counter, a deceptive exchange took place. Described by the sheriff's office, "As soon as the clerk places the tickets on the counter, the suspect throws down counterfeit $100 bills, grabs the tickets and runs out of the convenience store." The ruse was revealed when the hapless clerks were left holding fake currency as the thief absconded with the tickets.

The elusive thief has been characterized as a white or Hispanic male, aged somewhere between 20 and 30 years. He is believed to be eluding capture in a strikingly bright red car—thought to be a 2016-2021 Honda Civic model, as per Express News.

Area residents and those with any connection to the suspect are encouraged to step forward with information. "The Texas Lottery Commission is assisting in the case," as mentioned in an announcement by the sheriff's office. Anyone possessing relevant details should get in touch with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office directly at 979-968-5856 or reach out to Fayette County Crimestoppers anonymously at 979-968-8477, as report by CBS Austin.
