A serious two-alarm fire at a Bedford apartment complex has left residents without a home, but thanks to the fast response of local firefighters and collaborative efforts from neighboring agencies, the blaze was contained without civilian injuries.
On the morning of January 5, the Bedford Fire Department was called to 3 Thousand One Crystal Springs apartment complex at 3001 Crystal Springs St. The first responding units had to quickly pivot their strategy after encountering a partial roof collapse within the first 10 minutes of arrival, as flames were seen breaking through the roof of the eight-unit building, WFAA reports.
While performing search and rescue, firefighters were able to evacuate a resident who was initially unaware of the fire engulfing the building. They also managed to safely retrieve a resident's pet cat from the burning structure. According to Irving Weekly, no civilians were hurt in the incident, though a police officer was treated for minor smoke inhalation and no firefighters sustained injuries during their efforts.
The city is now actively working with the Red Cross to provide assistance to those displaced by the fire. "We appreciate the help from area agencies, including Euless, Hurst, Grapevine, Colleyville, Watauga, and Haltom City," the Bedford Fire Department stated in a post on X, a social media platform. In the aftermath of the fire, efforts are being made to determine the cause, which for now, remains under active investigation.
