An airboat tour in the Florida Everglades went south yesterday evening, leaving several passengers dealing with the aftermath of a crash. The incident took place near Everglades Alligator Farm in the wetland's vast expanse, specifically at 40300 block of Southwest 192nd Avenue, as reported by Local 10 News. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the scene to assess the passengers on board during the time of the incident.
The crash occurred around 5 p.m., but luckily, resulting only in minor injuries, the county officials stated. Despite the chaotic scene, no one required transportation to a hospital for treatment. However, it remains unclear what caused the airboat to lose control.
Overhead footage secured by Sky 10 captured the extensive response as authorities surrounded and inspected the capsized vessel. Surrounding wetland vegetation and the encroaching dusk likely added complications to the rescue and investigation efforts.
As of now, the cause of the crash is under investigation, and authorities have not disclosed whether the operator of the airboat is facing charges. A spokesperson for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue told Local 10 News, "No one had been transported to the hospital following the crash." Live video shared by CBS News Miami showed the vessel on its side with a handful of the passengers standing nearby, awaiting further assistance.
Details surrounding this event remain sparse as the investigation into the crash continues. County officials and rescue workers are piecing together how a scenic tour turned awry, ensuring such incidents are prevented in the fragile ecosystem of the Everglades, a tourist attraction and natural habitat that sees thousands of visitors every year.
