A Fort Lauderdale woman is being held on charges of animal cruelty after police say she fatally attacked her family dog with a kitchen utensil. The accused, 30-year-old Shacoria Pulliam, was arrested following a grim discovery of the dog's remains in a local dumpster.
Reports from the Fort Lauderdale Police indicate they were called to Pulliam's residence on September 1 due to allegations of animal abuse. Law enforcement was advised that Pulliam was seen in a highly agitated state, taking her anger out on the dog. As per a witness account detailed in an arrest report accessed by WSVN, Pulliam was yelling and punching a small mixed poodle breed named Snowball on August 28, leading to audible yelps from the animal.
The abuse reportedly escalated later that day, with the witness alleging Pulliam struck the dog, this time with a frying pan. The encounter was described as brutal, with Boston 25 News reporting that neighbors could hear Snowball yelping as it was repeatedly hit. After the alleged beating, Pulliam kicked the dog out the door, according to the witness statement.
The subsequent investigation led to a disheartening find when Snowball's decomposed body was discovered in a trash receptacle near Pulliam's apartment. The necropsy results confirmed that the dog suffered fatal blunt force trauma. The Broward County Sheriff's Office has since updated its online booking records, showing that Pulliam faces a felony charge of animal cruelty resulting in death.
