In a swift response to a blaze tearing through a Fort Worth home, firefighters heroically rescued more than a dozen pets, though two cats couldn't be saved. The house fire, which erupted Wednesday evening, also left nine adults without a place to call home. According to CBS News Texas, these individuals are now being aided by the American Red Cross.
The Fort Worth Fire Department crews managed to quickly control the fire, which was reported just before 7 p.m. in the 3200 block of Chenault Street. They fiercely worked to not only extinguish the flames but to also thoroughly search for and rescue over a dozen animals trapped inside. One person was injured in the conflagration and had to be transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
The pets, a mix of cats and dogs, suffered from smoke inhalation and required immediate treatment. Firefighters provided resuscitation efforts as each was brought from the engulfed structure into the safety of the front yard. Following treatment, the animals were handed over to animal control crews. Sadly, amidst the lifesaving efforts, two cats succumbed to the conditions of the inferno.
Efficiency marked the department's handling of the fire, as they managed to bring the situation under control within 20 to 25 minutes. This quick action undoubtedly saved lives and likely prevented the fire from spreading further.
