Two Fort Worth cops are being hailed as heroes after they used their quick thinking and medical training to save a shooting victim's life earlier this month. Police Officers Thomas Hooper and Oscar Alvarez, were first on the scene of a shooting on January 9, where they found a young person bleeding out from severe gunshot wounds, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
Their response was a life-saving one; with expertise in Tactical Combat Casualty Care, Officers Hooper and Alvarez managed to apply tourniquets to both of the victim's femoral arteries, a quick action that kept the victim alive until they could receive professional medical attention, their swift response not just a testament to their training but also their calm under pressure which might well have made the difference between life and death.
Fort Worth Police Department took to social media to acknowledge the officers' "extraordinary bravery" and commend their "exceptional heroism and dedication to our community." The officers' adept handling of the critical situation drew lauds from their peers and the wider community alike, underscoring their commitment to serve and protect, even under the most dire circumstances, per the Fort Worth Police Department.
Acknowledging their capacity to extend beyond the routine requirements of their badge, the department's public statement highlighted how the officers "not only exemplified the highest ideals of law enforcement" but also how they have shown that the principles of Tactical Combat Casualty Care can have a profound impact, in real-world outcomes such as the preservation of human life which at its core is the quintessence of their sworn duty, as per the Fort Worth Police Department.
