Gone are the days of the humdrum championship T-shirts in Fort Worth, as the adult sports leagues upgrade to some serious bling. The City of Fort Worth’s Park & Recreation Department decided it was time to level up the game and introduced championship rings to honor its league victors. The shiny new tradition kicked off with a ceremony on Dec. 13 at the Charles H. Haws Athletics Center, according to the City of Fort Worth.
It appears teams have spoken, and they’ve tossed their votes into more than just a suggestion box. “After considering various suggestions, from medals to authentic jerseys, the consensus settled on championship rings as the perfect embodiment of the transition from one era to another,” Walter Hall, a recreation programmer in the Park & Recreation Department, said. The new annual fall tradition is not just an upgrade - it's a complete game changer, per the City of Fort Worth.
Basketball and softball league champs were the first to indulge in this heightened recognition, with a total of 84 athletes slipping on their tokens of hard-earned victory. It wasn’t just about the glittering rings though; the ceremony was also a moment for the community to celebrate together and set their sights on future glories.
The city made sure to cap off the celebrations with a nudge to the athletes and enthusiasts, reminding everyone that spring registrations would be swinging into action come Monday, Jan. 29.
