Rayna Guy, who traveled from Sophia, West Virginia, expressed disappointment to Atlanta News First, "I didn’t know there would be a fence. I thought I would at least get to go on the porch."
Despite the fence, the site remains a point of reverence for many who seek to honor the legacy of the civil rights icon. "Atlanta, Georgia, stands on Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy and what he’s done for the African American community," Marissa Simms, a local, told Atlanta News First. In the midst of this, a multi-million dollar renovation is set to commence at the MLK birth home, projected to last approximately two years.
Commemorative activities expand beyond Atlanta's perimeter.
