A contraband smuggling operation at the Fulton County Jail has been dismantled, resulting in the arrest of six individuals, including a detention officer and several food service contractors. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the illegal network was discovered after an employee spotted cigarettes hidden under sandwiches in a food tray back in December 2023.

The investigation, which was swiftly launched by the Sheriff's office, has led to the unraveling of a scheme that Sheriff Patrick Labat claimed to "systematically" smuggle items through contractor vehicles. The operation reportedly profited upwards of $100,000 last year. Detention officer Tiffany Davis was among those arrested when SWAT officers found drugs, cash, a drone, and weapons at her home, as detailed in a statement obtained by WSB-TV. Her boyfriend, Vanlen Preston, a former inmate, was also arrested at the scene and discovered hiding in the attic.

Four food service workers were implicated in the contraband ring, including Sequoyah Anderson-Roberts, Tiffany Anderson, Nicole Sheats, and Richard Smith, who were reportedly involved in bringing banned items into the precinct. These contractors were employed by Summit Correctional Services, which had taken over the jail food services from Aramark in April 2023. Sequoyah Anderson-Roberts and Tiffany Anderson face multiple charges for providing tobacco to inmates, whereas Richard Smith was additionally charged with possession of marijuana.

Officials are still pursuing further leads as they believe more individuals might be linked to the network. Sheriff Labat emphasized in an interview with FOX 5 Atlanta that they were "working with the DA" to uncover the extent of the corruption and to firmly put to hold similar operations in the future. Labat has suggested that additional charges are possible as the investigation continues to unfold.

Security updates and changes are expected at the Fulton County Jail to prevent future contraband networks. All individuals arrested in this scheme are currently facing serious charges, with some already being released from custody, while others remain held.
