A Galesburg man's future has been shackled by an unforgiving sentence for his role in a heist that shook a local bank to its core. Theus Randolph, 23, of the 1700 block of Rock Island Avenue, received a 144-month stint in the big house for conspiracy to commit armed bank robbery, the actual heist, and brandishing a firearm during the frightening incident.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Randolph pleaded guilty last summer on July 18. His cohort, Dantonis Tayjohn Lewis Fair, also threw in the towel and is expected to face a similar reckoning come Valentine's Day, February 14. In addition to his time behind bars, Randolph is on the hook to cough up $28,744 in restitution, the Department of Justice announced.

During the sentencing, Chief U.S. District Court Judge Sara L. Darrow didn't mince words, underscoring the importance of safety in the workplace and the indelible mark left on the employees terrorized by Randolph and his partner in crime. "The lifelong impact Randolph and his co-defendant’s actions had on the employees they terrorized" served as a reminder of the gravity of such lawless acts, she said.

The Rock Island Police Department pieced together the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Mathew steering the prosecution’s ship.
